What People Say About Cancer Care at Whidbey General

Through the years, many patients and family members who have been touched by cancer have shared their thoughts with us through cards, notes and letters. We at Whidbey General are honored that these individuals have entrusted us with their care, and we are deeply grateful to be partners on their journey.

MAC nurses"All of you shine with love and caring!—the doctors, nurses, clerical staff and others we’ve encountered and are blessed to have met. Why we’re here is not our choice, but we couldn’t think of a better place to go through this journey. We are so grateful."

"Thank you so much for your genuine care and concern. Your positive attitude helped me maintain mine."

"Your individual and collective compassion, humor and professionalism made the very best of a bad situation."

"I’m always so welcomed, I really feel at home!!"

"I am currently undergoing chemo for the second time. The first was last year at Swedish Hospital which was very good, but the onerous trip there—in the winter—and 13-hour day was overwhelming. It was determined recently that I needed another round of chemo. Needless to say, that was traumatic news for me. My chemo care was transferred to Dr. Mark Coughenour at WGH. Yesterday I started chemo there, and all the personnel made it so pleasant—unbelievably so. Everyone from the receptionists to check-in desk, labs, CAT scan tech—are VERY compassionate and efficient. I am so proud of our hospital. I am spreading the word—there is no need to leave this island for exemplary care. Keep up the good work. FOREVER GRATEFUL."

"This is an excellent clinic. I liked how all the staff communicate so they work together to help. They all know who I was and that made me feel safe."

They have not yet invented words sufficient for me to be able to properly thank all of you for everything you did for my wife over the past several years. It was, of course, way more than what you did. It was the kindness, the compassion and your humanity that I will always remember.

"I can’t begin to thank you for all the acts of kindness that you freely bestowed on my wife during her long fight with cancer. The very best to all the angels at the MAC."

"Dear loving friends at the MAC unit, we wish to express our appreciation and heartfelt gratitude for the knowledgeable and compassionate care afforded us by Dr. Coughenour and the MAC Unit as well as the general nursing staff of Whidbey General Hospital. To be given a second chance for an even longer life with my family and friends is a truly miraculous gift! We can earnestly pray that God continues to guide your intellect and hands in your healing techniques for all those who are given into your loving care."

"Dear Dr. Jiang, thank you so much for your expert guidance during my treatment. You have saved my life, and have my greatest respect."

MAC nurse taking BP"The team in Oncology is exemplary. I’ve had the utmost confidence in the care I was provided—by Dr. Wang and nurses Ann, Candace, Ginny, Jackie, Julie, Lisa, Marta and Susan—and it was well-placed. Besides having compassion and great competence, they cared about me as a person. I cannot say enough about how positive my experience has been under their care."

"Thanks so much for all you do for me—explaining what’s being done, what’s happening, what to expect, listening to me, answering my questions before I ask. And special thanks for being so nice. It’s all these things which I believe is helping me do so well with the treatments. You’re such a nice group of people and I sincerely appreciate all you do for me."
