Ultrasound

These scans use sound waves to image internal organs. Warm gel is applied to the skin to acquire optimal images of specific organs of interest.

Abdominal
Please have nothing to eat or drink 8 hours prior to scan. (Medications may be taken with a small amount of water.)

  • You will be asked to lie on your back and side.

  • This exam takes approximately 1 hour.

Breas
This exam has no preparation.

  • You will be asked to lie on your back or side and raise an arm above your head.

  • This exam takes approximately 30 minutes.

Carotid
This exam evaluates the arteries in the neck for obstruction by analyzing blood flow velocities

  • Please do not have Caffeine products four hours prior.

  • You will be asked to lie on your back with your head turned to the left, then right.

  • This exam takes approximately 1 hour.

Lower Extremity Arterial 
This exam evaluates the arteries in the legs for obstruction, by analyzing blood flow velocities. Blood pressures are also taken on both arms and ankles.

  • This exam has no preparation.

  • You will be asked to lie on your back, while the arteries from the groin to the ankle are imaged.

  • This exam takes approximately 2 hours.

Lower Extremity Venous
This exam evaluates the veins in the legs for blood flow obstruction.

  • This exam has no preparation.

  • You will be asked to lie on your back, while the veins from the groin to the ankle are imaged. (Multiple light compressions will be done, while blood flow is documented.)

  • This exam takes approximately 1 hours.

OB Detailed
Please arrive with a FULL bladder, drink at least four 8 oz of water.

  • You will be asked to lie on your back and side.

  • This exam takes approximately 1 hour (depending on the baby’s cooperation!)

This exam takes approximately 1 hour 

During this exam, a series of images are taken of detailed fetal anatomy. Images could include: limbs, spine, heart, kidneys, brain, face, umbilical cord, and placenta. This is a long exam, we ask that you leave your small children at home.

OB First Trimester
Please arrive with a FULL bladder, drink at least four 8 oz of water.

  • You will be asked to lie on your back and side.

  • This exam takes approximately 1 hour.

This test may have two parts, depending on the gestational age:

Part 1: With a full bladder, the uterus and ovaries
are imaged.

Part 2: With an empty bladder, a transvaginal ultrasound is performed to image the uterus, cervix and ovaries internally.

OB Limited
Please arrive with a FULL bladder, drink at least four 8 oz of water.

  • You will be asked to lie on your back and side.

  • This exam takes approximately 1 hour (depending on the baby’s cooperation!)

Pelvic
Please arrive with a FULL bladder, drink at least four 8 oz of water.

  • You will be asked to lie on your back and side.

  • This exam takes approximately 1 hour.

This test has two parts:

Part 1: With a full bladder, the lower abdomen is scanned to image the uterus, ovaries, and kidneys

Part 2: With an empty bladder, a transvaginal ultrasound is performed to image the uterus and ovaries internally.

Renal Artery
This exam evaluates the renal arteries for blood flow obstruction.

  • Please have nothing to eat or drink 8 hours prior to scan. (Medications may be taken with a small amount of water.)

  • You will be asked to lie on your back and side.
  • This exam takes approximately 1 hour.

Renal/Retroperitoneal
Please arrive with a FULL bladder, drink at least four 8 oz of water.

  • You will be asked to lie on your back and side.

  • This exam takes approximately 1 hour.

Scrotum/Testicular
This exam has no preparation.

  • You will be asked to lie on your back and help with positioning.

  • This exam takes approximately 1 hour.

Thyroid
This exam has no preparation.

  • You will be asked to lie on your back with the head tilted slightly back.

  • This exam takes approximately 30 minutes.

Urinary Bladder
Please arrive with a FULL bladder, drink at least four 8 oz of water.

  • You will be asked to lie on your back and side.

  • This exam takes approximately 30 minutes.

This test has two parts:

Part 1: With a full bladder, volume measurements are taken of the bladder and kidneys.

Part 2: With an empty bladder, volume measurements are recalculated.
