X-Ray
Uses ionizing radiation to make images of bones and internal organs. It is used to assess conditions of the body, whether there are diseases, fractures or blockages present.
Please do not wear metal in the area of your examination. You may need to change into a gown.
Barium Enema
This is a study of the colon in which barium is given as an enema. Air is used to spread the barium over the colon producing an outline to reveal any irregularities in the lining, show polyps or growths.
- You will need to follow the preparation given in a kit. Please obtain this several days before your exam, from your physician’s office or from the Diagnostic Imaging department.
- You will need to change into a gown for this exam.
IVP - Intravenous Pyelogram
This is a study of the kidneys, ureters and bladder. Contrast will be injected to visualize these organs. Multiple x-rays will be taken to view their function.
You will need to follow the preparation given in a kit. Please obtain this several days before your exam, from your physician’s office or from the Diagnostic Imaging department.
- You will need to change into a gown for this exam.
- Since contrast will be given please see the following items:
If you are diabetic, please notify the technologist and the person scheduling the exam
If you take Glucophage or Metformin for diabetes, you need to withhold this medication for 48 hours - after the IV injection
If you have had a previous reaction to the IV contrast or have an allergy to iodine, your doctor should prescribe some medication for you, prior to the exam
If you have a history of diabetes, nephrectomy (kidney removal), renal failure, or renal problems and/or are 70+ years old, you will need to have some blood work done within 90 days prior to your scan
Upper GastroIntestinal Study/Esophagram
This is a study of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum in which barium is swallowed. The images are viewed in "real time" to observe any dysfunction, ulcers or hiatal hernias.
- Please do not eat or drink anything after midnight prior to your exam.
- You will need to remove your upper clothing and wear a gown.
