Car Seat Safety

Have you followed instructions?

Follow specific instructions for your child's car seat. use vehicle owner's manual for tips on buckling in the seat.

Is your child using the right size car seat? Does it face the right way for your child's weight and age?

Under age one: Car seat faces the rear of the car. Infant-only car seats always face rearward. Convertible seats face rear for children under 22-30 pounds (check instructions). For baby over average weight, use convertible seat with rear-facing weight limit of 30 pounds, so she/he can face rearward to age one.

Over age one AND over 20 pounds: Car seat faces forward, either a convertible seat or a toddler/booster seat.

Over 40 pounds: Belt-positioning booster preferred to make lap and shoulder belts fit right. For upper-body protection in lap belt positions, install a shoulder belt (see auto dealer) or a tethered vest or harness (E-Z On Products, 1-800-323-6598)
