Volunteers

Whidbey General Hospital is fortunate to have many dedicated individuals who donate their time, skills, and caring to support the work of hospital staff. Hospital volunteers make a difference by providing essential services to patients in countless ways. Whidbey General is currently looking to expand its volunteer staff, and there are many ways you can help! In general, our volunteer work falls into four categories:
Greeting Patients & Visitors
Volunteers are often the first members of the hospital team that patients and visitors meet. These volunteers greet people, answer questions, escort patients and visitors to their destinations, and bring beverages to patients, visitors and staff.
Staffing the Gift Shop
Our gift shop is a convenience for patients, visitors, and hospital staff. The merchandise is often unique and an affordable alternative to buying gifts elsewhere. Flowers are available on site or can be ordered by phone.
Clerical
Not all volunteers work with patients. Many choose to lend a hand with filing, paperwork, data entry, phoning, putting together charts, and other ofice duties. Some office work is suitable for pairs of volunteers; most offices can seat only one volunteer.
Liaison
Volunteers in the E.R. and Outpatient Surgery keep patients’ loved ones informed about which hospital staff are with the patient, where the patient is, and when the patient can be seen by the person waiting.
