Reproductive Healthcare Policy
- Whidbey General Hospital is grounded in the belief that every woman has a right to plan if, when and how to have a family regardless of race/ethnicity, socio-economic status or citizenship. This is supported by RCW 9.02.100 which declares “every individual has the fundamental right to choose or refuse birth control and every woman has the fundamental right to choose or refuse to have an abortion, except as specifically limited by law.”
- Whidbey General Hospital offers maternity care services in the Whidbey Family Birthplace where a mother can labor, deliver and recover in the same bed in the privacy of the same room.
- Women who choose to voluntarily terminate a pregnancy will be provided a referral to a provider outside of Whidbey General Hospital. RCW 9.02/150 states “that no person or private medical facility may be required by law or contract in any circumstances to participate in the performance of an abortion if such person or private medical facility objects to so doing. No person may be discriminated against in employment or professional privileges because of the person’s participation or refusal to participate in the termination of a pregnancy.”
